We all deal with a lot driving each day on the roads of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and for the most part, we remain patient. For the most part.

I want to vent about something that happens to me on our roads all the time, and lately I think it's happening more often than ever. And I'm sure it's happened to you, too. and I'm sure it bugs you as much as it bugs me.

Here's what happens. You're driving on the Parkway, minding your own business when you get behind somebody in the middle lane doing 45. You stay back for a minute or two assuming they're going to at some point least reach the speed limit. They don't.

So you decide you need to pass them, since you want to get where you're going before Christmas. You signal, change lanes and accelerate to a safe speed that would allow you to pass this car, and then it happens.

The driver who, seconds ago, was completely oblivious to his speed, and completely oblivious to the fact that he was slowing down traffic, and completely oblivious to the fact that you were even behind him, is now keenly aware you are trying to pass him, and he isn't going to let that happen.

So he floors it as you're trying to pass. Suddenly this genius has found his accelerator and is doing 80 so you can't pass him. I have one question...why???

Is he insulted that you are passing him? Is he embarrassed that he was driving the way he was? Or is he so competitive that he refuses to be passed? We may never really know, but my answers to those questions are "Get over it", "You should be" and "Get over it".

My vent has ended. I feel better. I hope you do too.
