I always find myself thinking about the history of Asbury Park during our live shows each Friday morning from the New Jersey Natural Gas Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio.

There are so many landmarks and so much to learn about this great place. Check out this timeline of just a few of the significant years in the history of Asbury Park.

1871  Asbury Park founded by James A. Bradley

1873  Asbury Park's first hotel, the Lake View, opened

1880  Steeplechase Amusements come to Ocean Ave, including Tillie.

1888  Palace Merry-Go-Round installed at  Lake Avenue and Kingsley Street.

1916  Woodrow Wilson uses Asbury Park as his 1916 campaign summer headquarters

1929  Construction begins on Convention Hall and the Casino building.

1974  Stone Pony opens

It's just so amazing to me that we are broadcasting from a location so rich in history. Just the thought that everyone from families enjoying vacation time together to some of the world's most famous celebrities have marveled at the same beach and landmarks that we are enjoying today. Come out and be part of this amazing history.

Info for the timeline was found on the Asbury Park Historical Society website as well as u-s-history.com and  newjerseyshore.com.
