19-year-old Michael Karwan, an autistic man who is a student at Brookdale Community College, was found found safe in Cleveland on Tuesday night, a week after leaving the home he shares with his parents after an argument.

He was reunited with his parents early Wednesday morning.

"With Michael safely reunited with his parents, we all have a little more to give thanks for this Thanksgiving holiday," said Monmouth County Acting Prosecutor Christopher Graiccioni. "I personally want to thank everyone who played a role in the search for Michael and his safe return."

Graiccion's  office detailed Karwan's journey last week took him by bus from Manhattan to the Hudson Valley, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and then Cleveland on Saturday.

He tried to check into an overcrowded men's shelter run by Lutheran Metropolitan Ministries (LMM) but was referred to the Volunteers of America shelter where an employee recognized Karwan from a Facebook news feed story about his disappearance. Marlboro Police were contacted, and working with the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Cleveland Police went to the shelter to get Michael.

Staten Island Congressman Michael Grimm (R), a friend of the Karwan family, led a search of Times Square last weekend for Michael and the Guardian Angels formed search teams in both Marlboro and Manhattan earlier in the week. He wound up in the Hudson Valley after getting directions to Marlboro, New York, 112 miles away from his Monmouth County home.
