There is scientific proof that you can make the choice to be happy.

There are lots of choices you make every day. Happiness can be one of them! It doesn't matter if you think your were born with the sad or negativity gene. It doesn't matter if you had a crappy past. Turns out you have a 'happiness set-point'...and if it's low, you can change it!

Scientists say about 40% of your happiness is within your control! In other words, happiness is a choice that you can make, so you can change your life by changing your attitude.

Two of the studies showed that just TRYING to be happier could actually make your mood better. If you make happinesss your biggest goal, you can become happier. You can actually teach yourself how to be happy by actively finding opportunities to be happy.

You can reprogram your beliefs, learn to self-manage yourself, change your skills in dealing with other people, and even help your career-related skills. YOU pick the environments. You choose the people that you are happiest around. You're in charge of yourself.

Some studies show the people who become happiest and grow the most are those who make their own personal growth their biggest priority.

Experts say your brain is wired to look for all the bad stuff and negative experiences, while not noticing the positive things. This causes the brain to react intensely to bad things compared to how it responds to good. But you can choose instead to appreciate and linger on the tiny, positive moments that you probably overlook each and every day.

One neuropsychologist says that people don't recognize the hidden power of their everyday experiences. You are surrounded by opportunities -- 10 seconds here, 20 seconds there-- where you can find good experiences and learn from them.

So make an effort to become more mindful. More grateful for the big and little moments of your life. Do something that makes you breathe a little easier, like meditation if that helps you. Make yourself smile by thinking positive thoughts.

But don't abide by that old 'fake it 'til you make it' saying. Faking a smile can result in worse moods and withdrawal. Look for truly honest moments of goodness.

Choose to be thankful. Take control and choose to be happy. Find the simple pleasures in life. A positive mindset can boost your well-being and even improve your performance, productivity, and creativity at work.

One nurse who spent years working with elderly people on their deathbeds noticed a common theme that came up time after time among her patients at the end of their lives. They regretted not 'letting' themselves be happy.

So don't stay stuck in the same negative patterns and habits. Don't just pretend that everything is okay. Make it so. Laugh. Be silly. Choose consciously to be happy.

Some experts agree that practicing kindness can also really help you feel good. Love others. Help others. Be kind and compassionate.

And...have a great day : )
