Common resolutions for the New Year include losing weight and saving more money. Lord knows I have my own problems battling the bulge, but when it comes to saving cash, there's a cool way to save more than a thousand dollars this year!

The premise is simple enough. Start the first week of the year by saving $1. Week 2, save $2. Week 3, save $3. Do this every week for the entire year, and by the end of next December, you should have saved up $1378!

It may seem easier now to ease into the 'money challenge' by starting with $1, but I would do it backwards, starting with $52, and working backward -- that way come next holiday season, you don't have to put as much towards your savings when there are already extra expenses.

Seems easy enough, right? Who wants to join me doing the money challenge in 2014?
