How to Set Up Emergency Medical ID on Your Phone
If you're a chronic worrier like me, you might have wondered how anyone would know how to get in touch with your loved ones if you were in an emergency and unable to communicate that info.
I found out about a genius phone feature today, Medical ID, that's a must for that exact situation!
It's available for iPhone users (with iOS 8 or later) as part of the Health app. (I'm not sure if there is something similar for Android users.)
It allows you to fill out information like your name, emergency contacts, blood type, current medications or medical conditions, etc., all available on one screen that's accessible even when the phone is locked.
Now, because this info would be available to anyone who gets their hands on your phone, and I tend to be a little paranoid about privacy, I won't be filling out every field, but I do have my blood type and an emergency contact listed.
To view/edit your Medical ID, simply go into the Health App, select Medical ID from the bottom row, and then hit edit on the upper right part of the screen.
To view Medical ID from the lock screen, simply swipe right to get to the keypad, then select "Emergency" from the lower left corner, then select "*Medical ID" from the lower left.
Brilliant.
