It's one of the most fun runs I've ever tried, and it's coming back to the Jersey Shore next month: Get ready for the Insane Inflatable 5k!

Now, you may think there's no way you're in shape to do it, but you can!

The II5K will be at the Jersey Shore on Saturday, August 29th at the Drum Point Sports Complex in Brick.

That means you have a little more than 5 weeks to get ready, which is plenty of time!

The good thing about the II5K is that it's not timed, and the fun, bouncy obstacles provide a little 'break' from the running, so you don't have to be able to run the 3.1 miles straight through.

A few years back, I wrote about my experience with the Couch-to-5K program. It's a very easy interval program you do three days a week that lets you gradually work up your strength and stamina.

For example, the first day involves a 5 minute brisk walk to warm-up, then for the next 20 minutes, you alternate jogging for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds. (You can really do anything for 60 seconds if you set your mind to it, but if even that seems too long, maybe start at 30 seconds!)

By the end of the 5th week (or 15th day of training), you'll be able to run approximately 2 miles (20 minutes) without having to stop to walk. Seeing as how none of the obstacles are that far apart, you'll be totally ready to go!

If you don't think 5 weeks is enough time to train, you'll have another chance to check out the II5K at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson on Saturday, September 12th!

Don't wait too long to register for either event...spots are going fast (and prices go up as the race gets closer!)
