Right here at the shore, you have a neighbor who looks like they have it all together...but that person has no idea how they will feed their kids tonight. You can do one small thing to help.

One simple action from you could mean breakfast, lunch, or dinner for that neighbor who can't afford it. One in ten people don't know where their next meal is coming from. And one in five of those are children. Many have to choose between paying for groceries or paying the rent or mortgage to keep a roof over their heads.

And those going hungry aren't always who you think of when you think of the hungry. Many of those going hungry in our area have a degree but can't find a full-time, well-paying job. Close to 80% of those going hungry are buying unhealthy food because that is all that they can afford. 46% water down their food and drinks to make them last longer.

This is Hunger Action Month. In Monmouth and Ocean Counties there are 132,000 people who need the help of the Foodbank , including 40,000 children. Maybe you and your kids can consider donating, volunteering, or shedding more light on hunger in our area.

The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties sends out more than 12 million meals each year through over 300 feeding programs. They are working toward long-term solutions to the chronic problem of food insecurity. The FoodBank wants all people at all times have access to enough food to maintain an active and healthy life.

Maybe you would consider getting the word out to stop hunger on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google+

Maybe you and your kids would like to stop by for a tour of the Foodbank at either their Neptune location or at the new B.E.A.T. Center in Toms River that they now also operate out of.

Maybe you can run a fundraiser and donate to the Foodbank.

Maybe you can do just one small thing to help so many.

Maybe you can teach a lesson in your classroom about the hunger problem in our own backyard. Or ask your school to participate in STUDENTS CHANGER HUNGER.
