The U.S. Green Building Council New Jersey Chapter (USGBC NJ) and New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) are presenting important information for New Jersey shore residents affected by Superstorm Sandy. This free information session will take place April 18, 2013, 5:30 - 7 p.m. (sign-in/registration 5 -5:30 p.m.) at Monsignor Casey Hall, 751 Main Avenue, Bay Head, New Jersey (behind Sacred Heart Church).

“Jersey Shore residents who attend this session will learn from a panel of green building experts about how they can incorporate sustainable and resilient elements into the reconstruction of their homes,” said Florence Block, executive director, USGBC NJ. “This is a terrific opportunity to get their questions answered on a range of related topics, including material selection, state incentives and the pros and cons of modular homes.”

Topics will also include:

  • Details on resilient green building
  • An explanation and benefits of ENERGY STAR®
  • Available funding and incentives
  • Durability of ENERGY STAR and LEED buildings
  • Top priorities for homeowners and talking points to discuss with your contractors.

A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion.

Clay Nesler, vice president of global energy and sustainability, Johnson Controls, Inc., said in a recent USGBC blog, “As we learned in Superstorm Sandy, many of the same design and operational principles that lead to greater sustainability can also lead to greater resilience. As if improving efficiency, reducing costs, creating jobs and protecting the environment weren’t enough; we can now add increasing resilience to the list of benefits resulting from more sustainable buildings and energy systems.”

Attendees will hear from the following green and sustainable building experts:

  • Robert Emert, Jr., AIA, LEED AP
  • Robert G. Emert Architect, Inc., chair of USGBC-NJ Residential Green Building Committee
  • Gerry Hazel, LEED AP BD&C, O&M ASHRAE HBDP, CPMP, M&E Engineers
  • Jason Kliwinski, AIA, LEED AP BD&C, O&M, LEED fellow and faculty, partner, Green Building Center of New York and New Jersey
  • Mark MaGrann, president and chief executive officer, MaGrann Associates
  • Darren Port, green building administrator and code specialist, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs

Representatives from NJNG and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) will also be on hand to provide information and answer questions about energy-efficiency incentives and rebates.

The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to register at www.usgbcnj.org/events. Call 973-290-0013 for more information.

The event is sponsored by: the Bay Head Environmental Commission, USGBC NJ, NJNG and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities NJCEP.
