Odd are that there are household items in your home right now that you should have thrown out a while ago.

If you're not sure how often you should replace certain items, here's a bit of a guideline for you according to aol.com.

The first thing we're going to cover is the first thing I thought of. That sponge at the kitchen sink. I have always thought that they get pretty gross pretty quickly. But how often should you toss it and get a new one? The experts say to do it weekly. Yep, a new sponge each week, unless you're doing something to clean it, like putting it in the dishwasher.

Up next, your toothbrush. While the sponge will touch your dishes and utensils, that toothbrush goes right in your mouth, so we definitely want to get this one right. To avoid bacteria, you should change it every three months.

Now let's tackle your favorite pillow. If you don't want to put your face where dust mites are, then you should change it annually. That's about the same amount of time it takes a bra to start losing support.

So now we have some schedules we can all follow to subtract some gross stuff from our house and lives, and that's always a good thing.
