It's almost the season for one of my biggest driving pet peeves, (people who don't clean snow off their cars) but today I was reminded of another one!

On this dark and dreary day, do your fellow drivers a favor by turning your headlights on when it's raining!

Beyond being a pet peeve of mine, the whole concept of "Wipers On, Lights On" is actually a state law.

I direct you to the NJ Driver's Manual:

Headlights must also be used when visibility is 500 feet or less, when using windshield wipers (during rain, snow and ice) or when encountering fog, mist, smoke or other factors that reduce visibility (N.J.S.A. 39:3-46)."

Now, I know what you're thinking, "But Laurie! It's daylight! I can see just fine without the lights!"

Well that's fine, but like a lot of things in life, this isn't about you.

You need to turn your headlights on so the other drivers on the road can see you. Darkened skies and raindrops reduce visibility. Headlights help us all keep car repair bills off the list of post-holiday stressors!

Stay safe today!
