Gilmore Girls fans who loved Dean Forester — that big ol' earnest Great Dane in human form who was Rory's first (and third) boyfriend — were excited to learn that Jared Padalecki was returning for the upcoming Netflix revival movies. But those hoping Rory and Dean would rekindle their romance will almost certainly be disappointed, as it seems his appearance is basically a cameo.

"I will say probably a lot more than I'm supposed to," Padalecki, who will return for a 12th season of Supernatural this fall, said at a recent convention appearance. "[Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino] basically said, ‘Listen, we're going to write you a really cool scene and if you get a day off let us know we will just put your scene on the schedule for that day.' She was like, 'It's a set that we already run and own [and] it's an actress that already is working every day, so let us know.'"

We're going to go ahead and assume said actress is Alexis Bledel, aka Rory. Padalecki went on to spill another big detail: His lone scene takes place at Doose's.

"So Dean has a cool scene in the market he used to work at," he revealed. "It's a nice, a really nice scene that gave me closure."

Given Padalecki's commitments to Supernatural — which, given the show's unwavering cult popularity, involves both making the show itself and appearing at fan events such as JIBCon — news of his brief screen time is unsurprising, if disappointing to those who adore Dean. Given Melissa McCarthy's transition into full-blown movie star over the past five years, we're likely to catch a mere glimpse of Sookie as well.

And what of this "closure" Jared speaks of? We can only assume that Dean, who SOME people may feel was often clingy, possessive and ultimately an adulterer who dragged Rory down (ahem), shares a pleasant moment with his ex. I like to imagine it'll be super emo and bittersweet, along the lines of Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford at the end of The Way We Were, all "your girl is lovely, Hubbell." In this scenario Dean is, of course, Streisand.
