Jersey Shore Half Marathon Falls Victim To Shutdown
The Jersey Shore Half-Mararthon has fallen victim to the federal government shutdown thanks to its location but is offering runners an alternative.
The historic race at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area was cancelled after the federal government failed to reach a resolution Friday. National Parks are closed across the country because of the shutdown.
However, the Atlantic City Marathon Race Series, which runs on Sunday, October 13, will be offering a substantial discount to runners who were registered to participate in the Jersey Shore Half Marathon.
Runners can visit the 2013 Sports & Fitness Expo on Friday, October 11th from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. or Saturday, October 12th from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. to register. By showing your proof of registration for the Jersey Shore Half, they will offer a discount on the cost of registration.
In a released statement Friday, AC Marathon officials said,
“We realize that many of these runners have been training for months and not having a race to complete their tremendous accomplishment would be devastating! We look forward to hosting members of our New Jersey running community during this difficult time.”
