Despite the years-long hype surrounding MTV’s hit reality show “Jersey Shore,” it has not yet won over the majority of New Jersey residents. A Quinnipiac University Poll released today finds 69 percent of Garden State voters agree “Jersey Shore” is bad for the state.

Furthermore, the poll found an overwhelming majority of New Jerseyans agree with Hoboken officials’ decision to deny permits for “Jersey Shore” to film in their town. Most people in the Garden State, including the younger crowd, would not want the show filming in their home town.

“Don’t belly up to the bar in my hometown, Garden State voters tell the ‘Jersey Shore’ crowd,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Voters think Hoboken was right to tell Snooki and her friends to perform somewhere else.”

A “Jersey Shore” spinoff recently started filming in Jersey City.

From February 21-27, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,396 registered New Jersey voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.6 percentage points. Live interviewers called land lines and cell phones.
