As January comes to an end, the Jersey Shore is about to get a reminder that it's still mid winter.

First, we get a little bit of snow that should start late evening and will end after midnight, and leave the Jersey Shore with a coating to an inch, according to Dan Zarrow, and then beyond that it's all about the temperatures.

During the day tomorrow, temperatures will plummet once again. This time the arctic air brings win gusts as high as 40 to 60mph at times. And along with it, temps diving into the single digits by the nighttime hours.

And that cold stays with us, along with the gusty winds, keeping temperature in the teens and wind chills at or below zero.

This is nothing unexpected at this time of year at the Jersey Shore, and also nothing new. But it is the exact weather we root against. All things considered, January treated us pretty well, with little snow, and some warmer days than we might expect.

And the dreamer in all of us is hoping for a February that behaves itself as well. So, what does an average February look like at the Jersey Shore.

As an example, usclimatedata.com says the typical Long Branch February features a daily high of 43, a daily low of 26 and the month usually features about 3 inches of precipitation (which, by the way, seems awful low to me).

If those averages pan out, I would sign up for that right now. I would just like to get through the month without that big February storm we always seem to have.
