When Governor Christie declared a state of emergency for NJ today in the wake of this winter storm, many people cheered.

'Snow day!' you said. 'Sleeping in tomorrow!' you proclaimed to us on Facebook.

Not for everyone...so who has to work today?

1. Anyone with a snow plow.

Someone's gotta clean all those roads. Salters, plowers, and other road clearers work through the night in the worst conditions to make the roads driveable for the rest of us. It might take a few hours to get to your remote cul-de-sac, but that person might have just driven 200 miles worth of pavement throughout other parts of your town.

2. Nurses, Doctors, EMTs, police officers, firefighters...

Basically anyone responsible for saving lives doesn't get today off. Hospitals don't close, emergencies still happen, and when your stubborn booty decides to take the sedan out for a cruise, some police officer has to come file the report when you slide off the road into a ditch. Speaking of which...

3. Tow truck drivers

You thought the 'don't drive unless absolutely necessary' didn't really apply to you, hmm? Well, when you crash, someone has to come get you out. Tow truck drivers to the rescue!

4. Various retail employees and the self-employed

Grocery stores, coffee shops, gas stations...all those folks are generally required to show up. Some of these people probably should get to stay home, but alas, no. Same goes for business owners...people have to make a living right? Sometimes people just can't afford to close.

5. Radio DJs (Like you didn't see this coming!)

This is one of those times when I feel like my job is kind of important. Disseminating important info and updates, trying to keep folks calm but informed, and hopefully keeping everyone from going stir-crazy is what I'm here for today. Does it suck having to drive in treacherous conditions when everyone else gets to stay home? Yes. But this is what we do. Most days my job is just kinda silly and fun...but days like today are when we shine.

'Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.' It's the first one!! You'll get your mail today. Be grateful, and maybe offer a warm beverage to your mail carrier!

7. People with ridiculously evil bosses.

Your job isn't 'essential.' You're not saving lives, rescuing or caring for another living thing, and when you get to work, you won't have a heck of a lot to do. You don't get a snow day simply because your boss is an evil d-bag who doesn't understand what 'state of emergency' means. I honestly just feel bad for you. You should probably quit your job, because that sounds terrible.

If you are working today, know that you aren't alone...and if you aren't, well, everyone on this list REALLY doesn't like you too much right now!

Are you or your friends and family members working today? Tell us what you do (and who else should be on this list) in the comment section below!
