Lakewood is the Second Youngest Town in America

Business Insider took a look at the towns in America that had the youngest median age. Lakewood ended up being the youngest in NJ and the second youngest in the entire country at 19.1!

The American Community Survey is run annually by the Census Bureau. Using estimates from the 2008-2012 ACS for all places with more than 10,000 people, they found the place with the lowest median age in every state.

The youngest place on the list is the village of Kiryas Joel, NY. This is a community of strict Hasidic Jews, and they tend to marry very young and have large families. Thus, leading to a very low median age.

The same reasoning applies to Lakewood. Lakewood's average age is 19.1.
