Allison Walker, Event Director for the ALS Association stopped by the Point Studio's to talk about the upcoming Walk to Defeat ALS at First Energy Park in Lakewood.First, what is ALS? ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and it's a devastating progressive neuromuscular disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Typically it affects men and women between the ages of 35 and 70. Over 5,000 Americans are diagnosed with ALS each year. Between 5 and 10% of cases occur more than once within a single family line.

ALS was brought to the forefront last spring with the Ice Bucket Challenge. It raised millions of dollars for ALS research, but additional funding is needed.

Allison told us more about the big walk on May 2nd at First Energy Park in Lakewood.
