Allegheny County Police in western Pennsylvania found a Little Egg Harbor man floating face down in the Emsworth Lock and Dam on the Ohio River on New Year's Eve around 10:35 am.

Allegheny and Ohio Township Police arrived to scene following a 9-1-1 call Monday morning about a body in the river.

48-year old Drew Camoosa,a teacher at Southern Regional Middle School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit then responded to the scene.

It's not yet known how Camoosa ended up in the river or why but KDKA CBS Local 2 affiliate in Pennsylvania reports his death was an apparent suicide.

KDKA also reports that the night before, Port Authority Police found Camoosa walking along the railroad tracks near the East Busway entrance downtown.

The report cites sources saying that, Camoosa, a high school social science teacher, had been reported missing from New Jersey and his family believed him to be suicidal.

Officers believed Camoosa posed a danger to himself and took him to the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in the city’s Oakland section to be involuntarily committed.

Under such a commitment, a person can be held for up to 72 hours against their will for evaluation and potential treatment.

Allegheny County Police are investigating why Camoosa’s body was discovered in the Ohio River less than 14 hours later and other circumstances surrounding his death.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477), callers can remain anonymous. The department can also be reached via its social media sites.
