For Monmouth County-based band The Perfect Gentleman, a whirlwind ride ends with a performance at this weekend's Bamboozle Festival.

The group was one of a select few local bands chosen to perform at the festival after winning The Break contest. After playing several battle of the bands style shows at The Stone Pony where they were judged on their performance, crowd reaction and draw, the band is set to bring their high energy brand of pop rock to The Bamboozle on Sunday, where they'll open for established acts like Brand New, The Gaslight Anthem and Bon Jovi.

"Well I must say it was definitely a challenge. It was by no means easy," Matt Manisero, the band's 25-year-old lead singer and songwriter said. "It was a fun little journey that really made us grow as a band and see what we're made of when we are put to the test."

The Perfect Gentleman was conceived by Mainsero, who wrote and recorded their album with a friend before setting out to find some of the area's most talented young musicians to perform with him. Citing a wide range of influences including Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Frankie Valli and Johnny Cash, Manisero harkens back to a time when music was more substantive in message.

"Many of my musical influences came from an older period where music really made a statement," he said.

With that message in hand and less than a year since their formation, The Perfect Gentleman has established itself as one of the area's best up and coming acts, poised to jump to the next level.

Manisero hopes that their Sunday performance will help put them over.

"Since this competition we have received more recognition than ever before," he said. "We are also writing a whole new album as we speak and hopefully a label will pick us up and we can really get a start at our music career."

The band has recently signed with new management and are preparing to record their next album. They are in talks with several producers from as far away as Los Angeles.

The Perfect Gentleman will perform on the Yuuzuu Break Stage at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.
