A Long Branch man is in custody for allegedly committing a pair of robberies at two different locations over the weekend.

In both instances 37-year old John Vernicek "Brooks" allegedly approached a cashier, physically threatened them and ran off with money from the register.

He's charged with two 2nd degree robbery counts and possession of heroin police found upon his arrest.

On July 6 at 11:18 pm he walked into the Super Stop and Shop on West End Court, approached the cashier posing as a customer and then pressed an undisclosed object into her back while demanding money from the register.

After instilling panic in the cashier he took the money and took off.

Three days later around 9:30 pm he went into Falvo's Liquour and Wines on Norwood Avenue, walked up to the woman working behind the counter who was counting the money from the register, charged at her, "knocked her off her feet", took the money and fled.

Through their investigation they determined that the suspect described by the victims and arrested Vernicek at his Long Branch home on Westwood Avenue.

He was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he is currently incarcerated.
