The last few months have certainly given us a lot to think about, and as the New Year approaches, I'm sure those thoughts will shape our New Years resolutions in many ways.

For one thing, I will never take a walk on a Jersey Shore boardwalk or beach ever again and take one board or grain of sand for granted. I will take a minute each time I'm there to appreciate just how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place.

I will try to never walk toward my home and not look up and remember how lucky we were in comparison to so many others. And I will always keep those who weren't as lucky in my thoughts and prayers.

And I will cherish every moment with family and friends and try to never take a second for granted. The last few months of this year reminded us just how fragile things are, and I don't ever want to forget that.

And we all will hug our children a lot more, and a lot tighter.

I'm not saying eating better, losing weight and and all the other typical resolutions aren't important. I'm just saying there's a lot more to think about this year.
