All I wanted to do was take care of dinner so Diane didn't have to worry about it. By the time I was done, I had doubled her work load. I shouldn't be left alone in the kitchen.

Here's what happened. I had just gotten off the phone with Diane, who was driving home from a haircut appointment. She wanted to make stir fry vegetables for dinner, but I knew she had a long day, and it was already close to 7:00pm, so that's when I decided to "help".

I pulled the vegetables out of the refrigerator and grabbed our electric wok.  I plugged it in, set the temperature at 250, poured a little oil in and grabbed the veggies. When I dropped them in, I immediately heard popping and splattering. Little oil droplets were flying everywhere.

I grabbed a screen to cover the pot and pulled the plug. Oil was everywhere. Literally, at that exact moment, the front door opened. The dog was barking, the house smelled like burned broccoli and I was standing there with a handful of paper towels.

I looked at her with an innocent smile and sheepishly said, "Hi Hon...I started dinner." She immediately took over. Seconds later the vegetables were in a another pan, the dog was calm and I found her wiping oil off the cabinets and floor. Diane was home.

Turns out I put the cord in upside down and had actually set the temp to 500. Oops. The kitchen cleaning took a half hour (of course, I tried to help) and the second round of cooking took 15 minutes. So I basically tripled the time it took her to get dinner ready. She's a lucky girl, right?
