Aggravated manslaughter charges have been filed against an accused hit-and-run driver who authorities say was driving drunk when he killed a New Brunswick woman as she walked to church.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan says 50-year-old Brian Clements of Manalapan turned himself in Wednesday to New Brunswick police.

Clements also faces a charge of leaving the scene of a fatality stemming from the March 30 accident that killed 52-year-old Silvia Reyes-Ramos. He was released after posting $235,000 bail.

Witnesses said Ramos was hit by a speeding sport utility vehicle. Kaplan says investigators were able to trace the vehicle to Clements, who had the SUV repaired after the crash.

Ramos — the mother of three adult daughters and a 9-year-old son — died several hours after she was struck.
