According to a recent poll, about 6 million Americans have an account they hide from their spouse, significant other or partner.

The poll was done by creditcards.com, and says that this "financial infidelity" can be just as bad for the health of a marriage as an affair. To put the findings in perspective, however, a vast majority of those polled (92%) say they have never hidden financial accounts from a spouse or partner they live with.

Of those who admitted to hiding accounts, most (67%) say they hid a credit card, followed by savings accounts and checking accounts. The findings would mean that over 600,000 people in New Jersey hide accounts from significant others, according to a 2014 population estimate from the United States Census Bureau website.
