Every parent will at some point (hopefully) discipline their child.

Was this Mom creative or over the line with her punishment?

Huffington Post reports Denise Abbott took to Facebook after her 13-year-old daughter Ava was disrespectful. Denise posted a picture of Ava to the site with a red X over her mouth and the words,

"I do not know how to keep my mouth shut. I am no longer allowed on Facebook or my phone. Please ask why. My mom says I have to answer everyone that asks."

In a response from Ava sent to a local NBC affiliate via e-mail she says,

"I feel like I deserved it because I was mean to my mom and spoke disrespectful to her in front of my friends. Facebook is a big part of my social life and it's how me and my friends find out what is going on and making plans and about school work and projects. It made me realize that I didn't want my picture on there like that because all of my friends were asking me what happened and what I did."

It appears as though Ava may have learned a valuable lesson here. Sure, the punishment may be extreme, but in this instance, I have to applaud the mother for holding her daughter accountable for her actions.

This isn't the first time a parent has taken punishment to the extreme, but it definitely is easier for word to spread thanks to social media (ironic in this instance, no?).

When I was a kid, Mama C would threaten us with the wooden spoon or soap in our mouths. I'd like to think it set my brother and I up to be relatively well-behaved individuals.
