Monmouth County health officials say they're now investigating 36 probable mumps cases as more individuals with symptoms come forward. County Public Health Coordinator Michael Meddis said "The median age of the individuals under investigation is 26 and with the exception of one pre-school aged child, all of the individuals are adults.

The popular Belmar night spot D'Jais Bar and Grill where the cases are centered voluntarily closed recently to sanitize the premises and is scheduled to reopen this week. On Sunday, County Health Department Nurses immunized 32 D'Jais employees.

Meddis says "If you believe that you may have been exposed to someone who has experienced mumps like symptoms, call the Monmouth County Health Department. He says public health nurse are available to answer your questions and evaluate your need for additional follow-up and there's additional information on the Health Department website. The Health Department number is 732-431-7456.

Symptoms include swelling of the salivary glands, along with fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite.
