Big changes are coming to Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, and now those plans are becoming clearer.

The Asbury Park Press reports that the mall will become more of a dining, living, and shopping destination, similar to Pier Village in Long Branch.

That would make sense, as both the mall and Pier Village are owned by Kushner Companies.

The project is estimated to cost $500 million, and would turn the standard mall that we all know into a more open-air, pedestrian and bike-friendly modern concept.

It's all in hopes to attract younger people, who are increasingly abandoning traditional malls.

In addition to shops and restaurants, there would be a hotel on-site, as well as one and two-bedroom residential units.

The full plans will be unveiled at 7 p.m. tonight at a Borough Council workshop meeting in the second floor Council Meeting Room at Borough Hall in Eatontown.
