DEAL — Two members of the Monmouth University football team were charged early Sunday after a party that drew nearly 300 revelers to their off-campus home.

Christian Runza Jr., 20, of Norwood, and Michael Christ Jr., 21, of Sterling, Virginia, were arrested by Interlaken police at the house party on Atlantic Avenue, where a large fight broke out.

Police said when officers arrived around 12:25 a.m. and began to clear the house, many attendees ran away while several fights broke out. Many of the attendees were described by police as "uncooperative."  Another 30 people who had not been allowed into the party before police arrived vandalized several parked card, according to police.

Runza and Christ were both charged by Interlaken police with disorderly conduct, maintaining a nuisance and providing alcohol to underage persons. They also face borough ordinance violations for underage consumption of alcohol on private property and littering. Both were released on a summons pending a court date.

Police are still investigating the damage to the cars and reviewing surveillance video

“We are aware and looking into the events that happened over the weekend. We will handle any discipline, if warranted, internally," Monmouth University Athletics spokesman Greg Viscomi said in a statement.

Runza was a quarterback and defensive end and played for Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan. Christ graduated from Dominion High School in Virginia and was a defensive linesman.

Last year, another student athlete at the school was charged with first-degree armed robbery in an incident involving a fake gun that sent the campus into a lockdown in November.

Interlaken police ask that anyone with information about the incident to call 732-531-1113.
