As a train approached, the boys moved closer to the tracks to get a better look. As they did, 48 year old David Howard allegedly advanced toward them, putting the 7-year-old in a headlock and grabbing the 9-year-old by his left shoulder, pushing them toward the tracks.

Police said the boys were able to break free as their mother and grandmother tackled the man, holding him on the platform until police arrived. Howard allegedly spit in the face of one of the three officers attempting to place him into custody, and police noted that he appeared intoxicated.

Howard is being held on $500,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail on charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer.
