Oh, how sweet it is! One of your favorite shore destinations has new owners but it's still going to be the place to be on hot summer nights.

Ralph's Italian Ice on Fischer Boulevard in Toms River has been operating for nearly 30-years serving iced treats to shore residents and visitors so they can cool down when temperatures are hot enough outside to cook an egg on the sidewalk.

The Chiacchio family are just the third owners in the history of the shop and they've made some changes you'll have to head over there to experience for yourself.

"We added a lot of color and lights," Joe Chiacchio said. "We wanted to create a place where family and friends could eat here instead of leaving, so we added benches and a place where people can gather to enjoy there treats here."

Joe is helping run the shop along with his parents Mark and Loretta and brother Anthony (who you've heard on our airwaves in the past).

The location of Ralph's is within close proximity to Route 37 and the bridge that takes drivers to and from Seaside, something that brings a steady flow of traffic to Fischer Boulevard for a icy treat.

While the exterior includes a bigger seating area and added lighting, inside are over 50-flavors of treats you can sink your teeth into.

"We added a whole new walk-in freezer, we added 'cookie monster' and about 30-new flavors also," Chiacchio said. "I don't think people realize that we also have smoothies, milkshakes, Italian ice and cream ice."

Other flavors include 'Blue Hawaii', 'Graham Crunch' and 'Mint Chip'.

That's not all though.

"We have soft ice cream, all kinds of ices, coffee drinks, fruit drinks and milkshakes as well," Chiacchio said. "We have a lot of toppings with the soft ice cream for little kids. Ralph's isn't just for people who like Italian Ice."

It's officially spring but the temperatures are indicating otherwise this week and typically do during this time of year, so Ralph's is only open on weekends for the time being but no for long.

"Right now we're open Friday thru Sunday 12:30 pm until 9:00 pm and come mid-April we'll be open 11:00 am until 10:30 pm seven days a week," Chiacchio said.
