DC PAWS believes there is more to rescue than placing shelter animals into forever homes. They are committed to providing the best possible standard of care for the animals they rescue by providing all the rescued animals with the necessary tools to succeed -- medical and behavioral care, as well as educating adopters, fosters, and volunteers about the benefits of science-based, humane, force-free training methods for dogs and cats in their care.

DC PAWS treats all volunteers, fosters and adopters with respect, compassion and courtesy and provides them with the necessary tools and training to succeed. DC PAWS also educated the public about responsible pet guardianship, the benefits of adopting, and the needs of animals in high-kill animal control facilities.

In keeping with this mission, most of the directors of DC PAWS have made personal visits to the animal control facility in Pickens County, South Carolina, that the rescue supports. This is a facility that has to kill many animals that could otherwise be adoptable. So DC PAWS is trying to save as many of these animals as possible.
