Spring Nor’easter to Brush New Jersey

A nor’easter will brush New Jersey on Tuesday with a spring snowfall.

The storm “will be on a track that will take it just far enough out to sea to spae us what southeastern New England may be getting” predicts Townsquare meteorologist Alan Kasper.

Alan doesn’t see much substantial accumulation from this storm for New Jersey because “solar insulation coming through the clouds” makes it “tough to get accumulations this time of the year.”

The National Weather Service notes that the snow will fall in spurts, not steadily for 18-24 hours.

Expected snow totals from Tuesday’s storm are:

  • 2-4 inches south of Interstate 78 into south Jersey
  • 1-2 inches north of Interstate 78 and Atlantic and Cape May counties

A Gale Watch has been issued along the entire shore for northeast winds  up to 45 knots early Wednesday.

“Rapidly intensifying storms need to be respected. Even small shifts of the track closer to coast will mean significant forecast changes,” tweets Gary Szatkowski of the National Weather Service’s Mt. Holly office who is also calling for northeast winds at 30 MPH+ that will cause some blowing of the snow on Tuesday night with a possibility of minor tidal flooding.

The track of the storm could still change, notes the NWS briefing, which would change aspects of the forecast.
