State transportation officials announce that starting Monday, March 17th, a section of Route 35 (a.k.a. Central Ave.) northbound from "J" street to Lincoln Avenue will be closed for 4 weeks for utility infrastructure and drainage system work.

Union Paving & Construction Company will also be completing a full depth roadway replacement that includes new curbs, sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps.

While all this work is going on, the south bound lanes along Route 35 will remain open.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) said detours will be posted diverting traffic onto the Boulevard.

The NJDOT said businesses along Central Avenue southbound in Seaside Park will remain open in the area with access available on "O" Street and residents on the West side or (Bay side) of Route 35 will be able to use "O" OR "J" Streets.

Private driveways along northbound Route 35 will also be accessible. However, the NJDOT said access may be temporarily denied while utilities are being installed adjacent to the driveways. Homeowners will get advance notice.

The roadwork is part of the massive $265 million Route 35 reconstruction project announced last year by Governor Chris Christie along the northern barrier Barnegat Peninsula. The NJDOT said they're scheduling the work to help minimize the impact on motorist during the summer tourism season.

The department said weather and other factors could impact the schedule. Motorist can check real-time travel information at the NJDOT's Traffic Information website at www.511NJ.org.
