Details of the storm are starting to come together as the National Weather Forecast Service has issued a statement calling for 2-4 inches of snow across south  Jersey, including coastal areas.. 4-6 inches of snow will fall in central and north Jersey north of Interstate 195 including Monmouth and Ocean counties.

6-8 inches are expected in Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Hudson counties and into New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut where a Winter Storm Watch has been issued starting Thursday night.

The National Weather Service's New York City office is warning that north Jersey could be getting a "high impact winter storm that might bring heavy precipitation, strong winds, minor to moderate coastal flooding and beach erosion accompanied and followed by bitter cold temperatures Thursday through Friday."

The snow starts as a wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain on Thursday afternoon and turn to all snow on Thursday night as temperatures drop rapidly into the single digits with strong northwest winds making for subzero wind chill. The snow ends on Friday morning as temperatures struggle to reach 20.Near record low temperatures are possible on Saturday morning.

Cold temperatures could affect how effective roadway chemicals are and lead to burst water pipes.

Moderate coastal flooding is possible with the Friday morning high tide along the New Jersey coastline with the highest risk coming off Monmouth & Ocean counties. Very cold temperature will cause icing problems due to blowing spray along all coastal sections. Roadways that flood due to the coastal flooding will ice over.

State climatologist David Robinson tells the Star-Ledger that forecasters are watching another storm that could affect us on Sunday or Monday.

Snow showers unrelated to the Thursday storm will move across the state on Tuesday afternoon with no accumulation.
