NJ Comcast Outage Still Affecting Customers
(3:10 p.m.) Update: Customers in Brick and Point Pleasant are reporting their service back on.
(3 p.m.) Update: Service is still out. Comcast's website has not been updated with a new timeframe.
After several hours without service, Comcast customers at the Jersey Shore may have service again within the hour...just in time for this evening's forecasted severe weather.
The outage started around 9:30 this morning, caused by a software glitch. Initially, Comcast's website said the service would be restored by noon. It's been updated to show a 3 p.m. service restoration.
Local customers said the outage was more than just an inconvenience.
Laurie Matthews of Brick said, "My biggest concern is anybody who's got a senior parent, that's trying to call them for some reason, and can't get through to them."
Meanwhile, others who rely on Comcast internet or cable services for work are unable to do their jobs today, including businesses who use the service for their credit card machines.
Comcast spokesperson Jeff Alexander said via e-mail that this is a local problem. "We are addressing a software issue impacting the network feeds to some of our central and northern Jersey Shore systems. Our engineers proactively detected the problem and have been working aggressively to resolve it since that time. We appreciate our customers’ patience as we remedy the interruption and apologize for any inconvenience."
Alexander did not confirm the possibility of having service back by 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, lots of Jersey Shore users have taken to social media to complain, with #comcastoutage trending locally.
As a Comcast customer myself, I understand the frustration of paying for a service you are unable to use! Don't worry, guys, the radio still works!
