New Jersey Has 2 Powerball Winners [POLL]

A Minnesota project engineer has come forward as 1 of 3 winners of $448 million Powerball jackpot while the two New Jersey winners remain a mystery.

A spokeswoman for the New Jersey Lottery says one of the tickets was purchased at a Super Stop & Shop store in South Brunswick and the other one at an Acme Markets store in Little Egg Harbor.

The Lottery will hold a press conference at the Stop & Shop  to talk about the prize money. Each winning ticket is worth $86 million before taxes if taken in a lump sum.

The lottery says the two stores that sold the tickets will each get $30,000. Phil Weber, director of the Acme Markets store where the winning ticket was sold, said Thursday that the store would donate $10,000 in gift cards to local charities. Weber said some of the store’s employees are still out of their homes more than nine months after the storm. The store itself has been making donations since Sandy, Weber said.

Wednesday’s numbers were: 05, 25, 30, 58, 59, and Powerball 32.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota winner,  Paul White, of Ham Lake, was introduced Thursday afternoon at a news conference at the Minnesota State Lottery’s headquarters.  White says he learned he was holding a winning ticket Thursday morning after his “significant other” called him to say one of three winners had been sold in Minnesota. He says he purchased two tickets for Wednesday’s drawing, and found one matched all six numbers.

Third Largest Jackpot Ever

By the time of the drawing, the jackpot grew from $425 million to an estimated $448 million, the third largest in game history.

New Jersey’s Powerball sales were averaging approximately $3,200 per minute late Wednesday afternoon.

Powerball has been very friendly to the Garden State. New Jersey celebrated a jackpot win on March 23 as Pedro Quezada hauled in $338 million with a ticket he purchased in Passaic. Powerball created 34 New Jersey Lottery millionaires in Fiscal Year 2013, which ended on June 30.
