If you ever take NJ Transit to the beaches on the weekend there's some awesome news for the summer!

Starting June 28, NJ Transit will offer express service on the North Jersey Coast Line from New York Penn Station to Bay Head, without having to transfer at Long Branch.

This week's announcement reports 'The new express service will serve New York Penn Station, Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, Elizabeth, Rahway, Aberdeen-Matawan, Red Bank, Long Branch, Asbury Park, and then all station stops to Bay Head.'

Sure, this is mostly to help tourists come to the area faster, but it's definitely helpful for locals too!

I hop on the train from Red Bank to Asbury or Belmar from time to time, and it would be a great timesaver to not have to switch trains in Long Branch! (Can I tell you how much easier it is to go to the beach without having to deal with parking or traffic of any kind?)

The new Shore express trains will operate 4 times a day on weekends and holidays from June 28-September 1.

I checked a tentative schedule, and as an example it will leave Red Bank at around 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 9 p.m., and 11 p.m., and a trip to Asbury would take 20 minutes instead of the normal 32.

I dig it. Plus, if more people take the train from NYC/North Jersey to the Jersey Shore, that's less traffic on the roads! Win-win!
