BEACH VOLLEYBALL All U.S. final is set

LONDON (AP) — Two American teams will square off for the gold medal in women’s beach volleyball. Two-time defending Olympics champ Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings beat China 22-20, 22-20 for their 20th straight Olympic victory. Fellow Americans Jennifer Kessy and April Ross rallied to beat the top-seeded Brazilians, Juliana and Larissa 15-21, 21-19, 15-12. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL U.S gold hopes still alive LONDON (AP) — Destinee Hooker scored 19 points to help the U.S. women’s volleyball beat the Domincan Republic 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 to move into the semifinals. The unbeaten Americans played without captain Lindsey Berg, who hurt her left ankle in the final preliminary match against Turkey on Sunday. The U.S. is looking for its first gold medal. The top-ranked U.S. team will play the winner of Tuesday’s late match between Italy and South Korea. WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS Two medals for Raisman, none for Douglas

LONDON (AP) — Aly Raisman, the captain of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team, grabbed the gold in the floor exercise. She also earned the bronze medal on balance beam and was part of the gold medal winning U.S. squad in the team event. All around gold medalist Gabby Douglas finished seventh on the beam after a fall. TRACK AND FIELD-100 METER HURDLES U.S. finishes 2,3 LONDON (AP) — Defending champ Dawn Harper was edged out by Australia’s Sally Pearson for the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. Pearson won in a time of 12.35 seconds, two hundredths of a second in front of Harper. Kellie Wells took the bronze medal. TRACK AND FIELD-1500 METERS Manzano gets silver for U.S. LONDON (AP) — Leonel (lee-ahn-EHL’) Manzano has done something no American had done in 44 years: Win a medal in the Olympic 1500 meters. He captured the silver with a second-place finish. Algeria’s Taoufik Makhloufi (tah-FEEK’ mak-LOO’-fee) grabbed the gold medal only a day after being reinstated to the final. Makhloufi was disqualified from the games after track and field officials ruled he didn’t try hard enough during a heat in the 800. But the disqualification was recinded. CYCLING-OMNIUM Hammer settles for silver LONDON (AP) — Sarah Hammer has won the silver medal in cycling’s omnium event. The American was overtaken by Britain’s Laura Trott in the last of the six events in the cycling competition, giving Trott the gold medal. TRACK AND FIELD-MEN’S HIGH JUMP Kynard grabs silver for U.S.

LONDON (AP) — Erik Kynard’s final jump came up short. The American had to settle for the silver medal after clearing 7 feet, 7 3/4 inches in the high jump at the Olympics. He raised his height in an attempt to surpass gold medalist Ivan Ukhov of Russia but couldn’t pull if off. TRACK AND FIELD Bolt advances in 200 LONDON (AP) — Usain (yoo-SAYN’) Bolt opened defense of his Olympic 200-meter title with a comfortable win in the opening round to finish in 20.39 seconds. Bolt’s teammate, 100-meter silver medalist Yohan Blake, won his heat easily in 20.38 as well. American Wallace Spearmon also qualifed with a time of 20.47. TRACK AND FIELD-WOMEN’S 200 Three Americans qualify

LONDON (AP) — Sanya Richards-Ross of the U.S. outleaned Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica to win their 200-meter semifinal heat in 22.30 seconds. Two-time defending 200 champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica, and two-time runner-up Allyson Felix of the U.S. and 100 silver medalist Carmelita Jeter (JEH’tur) of the U.S. also advanced. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL U.S. beats Canada LONDON (AP) — Diana Taurasi (tohr-AH’-see) scored 15 points and Candace Parker added 12 to lead the U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team to a 91-48 rout of Canada. The 39th consecutive Olympic win for the Americans propels them into the semifinals. WATER POLO U.S. advances to gold medal game LONDON (AP) — Maggie Steffens scored four times, including the go-ahead goal to lead the U.S. over Australia 11-9 in extra time and into the women’s water polo final. Australia’s Southern Ash converted a penalty with one second left on the clock in regulation to tie the match 9-9 and force extra time. OLYMPICS-ASYLUM Seven members of Cameroon team missing LONDON (AP) — Cameroon’s Olympic chief says seven of the country’s Olympic competitors are missing from the athletes’ village, prompting concern they may attempt to seek asylum in Britain. David Ojong, head of mission for Team Cameroon, says that the seven all currently hold visas which would allow them to remain in Britain until at least November. Britain’s Home Office, responsible for immigration, said it could not comment on whether any of the seven had applied for asylum. MEDALS China leads by 3; Britain rising LONDON (AP) — With three gold medals, Britain raised its total to 22 and has now won more of them than at any Summer Games in 104 years. It trails only China, which has 34 golds and 73 overall, and the United States, which has 30 golds and 70 overall. South Korea has 12 golds and 23 overall, whhile Russia has 10 golds and 48 overall.
