Every December, Pantone, the Jersey-based corporation dedicated to all things color, announces the 'it color' for the following year.

2015's official hue?

Pantone writes on their website, 'Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.'

You can expect designers of all kinds - from fashion to home to makeup - to incorporate this color into their work. Unlike previous Pantone 'colors of the year,' this one doesn't seem to be as fun or appealing to me. It just makes me go, 'Ehhhh...' (I'm all about the Emerald from 2013 and Honeysuckle from 2011!)

Let's be honest, this Marsala color kind of looks like dried blood.

That said, for the rest of winter, and perhaps come fall 2015, I think it could make for a nice, dark lipstick, or work well for accessories like scarves, handbags, and jewelry.

I'm not sure I love it for home decor, unless you're one of the those Rockefeller-types that buys different colored appliances and furniture every year...but that's a story for different blog.

If you dig the color, you can get in on the trend early with the official Pantone Universe makeup collection from Sephora and some skinny cords from the Gap --technically in Raisin, not Marsala, but whatever it's close enough. NBC's Today Show reports Keurig is even making a coffee brewer in the official color.

Fancy!
