Periods of sun and clouds Thursday, with rain on the horizon for NJ
Thursday's high temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Wednesday's, but it will still be a dry, pleasant autumn day overall.

Another Pleasant Autumn Day
A shot of slightly cooler air means today's high temperatures will end up a hair lower than yesterday. (For reference, yesterday's highs were 76° at Newark, 74° at Trenton, and 73° at Atlantic City.)
Today's overall forecast is dependent on how the cloud cover plays out. We have seen periods of overcast skies overnight, but the satellite has been showing some good clearing across New Jersey. As you would imagine, fewer clouds will lead to more sunshine and therefore slightly warmer temperatures.
Winds will be light Thursday, and that is contributing to a calmer ocean. While a high risk for rip currents continues, there are no marine warnings, watches, or advisories for the today. (I think that's the first time we have been able to say that in over a week!)
Clouds will increase Thursday night, although temperatures will still end up on the cool side. Overnight lows will generally fall to the mid to upper 50s across New Jersey.
Complicated Friday
As a cold front approaches New Jersey on Friday, we will experience a weather "transition day". Skies will be mostly cloudy to start, and we will pick up a brisk wind, up to 20 or 25 mph. The early part of the day could feature a few widely scattered showers or sprinkles. High temperatures could come close to 80° for the southern half of the state, and it could get a bit humid by the afternoon.
The better chance for rain could arrive as early as Friday late afternoon, although the most likely timing of the rain will be in the evening hours. thisline of showers will precede the front, and will likely bring at least a little bit of rain to almost everyone in New Jersey. Models continue to show marginal instability amidst the relatively warm temperatures and humid air, so there could certainly be a few rumbles of thunder form this line of rain. The Storm Prediction Center has put New Jersey in a "Marginal Risk" for severe weather tomorrow. But I'm not really expecting widespread severe weather or heavy rain from this system.
Weekend Improvements
By the time you wake up Saturday morning, the rain should be gone. The clouds and the brisk wind, however, will remain for a little while. (I do expect clearing skies and calming winds by Saturday afternoon.) Meanwhile, the air behind the front will be much cooler - high temperatures on Saturday will reach the autumn-like lower 60s at best.
As mostly sunny skies return on Sunday, temperatures will warm accordingly. Highs will approach 70° on Sunday.
And Columbus Day Monday looks even warmer, with some afternoon highs approaching 75°.
