Ongoing negotiations have led a Jersey shore town to postpone a final vote on an ordinance that would prevent bars and restaurants from selling alcohol after midnight.

The Point Pleasant Beach Council in March narrowly approved the ordinance. Bars and restaurants would be permitted to serve until 2 a.m. if they pay a fee based on occupancy.

Two of the beach town’s biggest businesses, Jenkinson’s and Martell’s Tiki Bar, have threatened to challenge the ordinance.

Attorney Ron Gasiorowski, who represents the businesses, tells the Asbury Park Press  the ordinance as proposed is being discussed.
