You better not pout, you better not cry and you most certainly better not drink or do drugs and drive.

Point Pleasant Beach Police are conducting saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints at various locations and times looking for drivers who being naughty and driving while intoxicated between December 8 and January 1 of 2018.

It's part of an annual statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign" where both local and statewide law enforcement agencies will put extra sets of eyes on the road to make sure they're safe for everyone.

A broader based campaign that's run on a national level also enforces the rules under the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" effort which authorities say aims to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving through a combination of high-visibility enforcement and public education.

The statistics from this year alone run between August and September are shocking and law enforcement everywhere is hoping to continue cutting down on that number.

Instead of getting behind the wheel after a night of some drinking, authorities encourage you to use mass transit, call a taxi, uber or lyft or have a friend or family member pick you up and be the designated driver.

Here's some other advice law enforcement agencies participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 2017 Year End Holiday Crackdown urge you to consider following during the holiday season:

  • Spend the night where the activity or party is held.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actions may save someone's life, and inaction could cost a life.
  • Always buckle up, every ride. It's your best defense against an impaired driver.
  • If you're intoxicated and traveling on foot, the safest way to get home is to take a cab or have a sober friend or family member drive you to your doorstep.
  • Be responsible. If someone you know is drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel.
