Police Search for Missing Boater off Highlands
The search for a missing man in the water off Highlands after his sunken boat was discovered has ended for the day.
The Monmouth County Police, Fire & EMS Facebook page reports the search started Sunday morning for Edward Broderick, a while male age 36 or 37 with blonde hair standing 5 foot 9 inches wearing gray or green sweatpants. The search will continue on Monday morning.
His friend Ray Phillips called the Coast Guard Sector New York in Staten Island on Staten Island to report Broderick he had not heard from Broderick as of 10 p.m. Saturday night. He was heading to a clamming faculty in Highlands.
State Police tell the Star-Ledger the search is focused on the area around the Captain's Cove Marina and the mouth of the Shrewsbury River where Broderick's 25-foot clam boat was sighted by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter who have been joined by the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit in the search.
The National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for Sunday as yesterday's storm intensified off the New Jersey coast on Sunday morning causing strong winds out of the southeast 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30.
