Preparing for Sandy – What You Need [LIST]
An unusual nasty mix of a hurricane and a winter storm that forecasters are now calling “Frankenstorm” is likely to blast most of the East Coast next week, focusing the worst of its weather mayhem around New York City and New Jersey. Here are a list of items that you want to have on hand before the storm.
Bottled Water
You'll want one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days.
Non-Perishable Food
Stock up on canned goods, peanut butter and powdered drinks. Again, a supply for 3 days is a safe bet. Don't forget the can opener!
Battery Powered Radio
Even if you're without power, you can still get the Point! We'll have continuous coverage and alerts from meteorologist Alan Kasper.
Batteries
Those battery operated items don't work without batteries. It's usually the thing we all forget about. Plus, even if this storm ends up being nothing, there always good to have around.
First Aid Kit
Your standard first aid kit is a must. Again, another wise item to always have around. Also be sure that all medications are filled and secured.
Fully Charged Battery Powered Flashlight
Two or three couldn't hurt.
Cell Phone with Charger
Make sure your phone is fully charged and plugged in if possible. You never know when you'll lose power. If you don't have a car charger, get one. It's great to have and may be the only way to power back up if we lose electricity. Don't forget, text "SANDY" to 89000 for text weather alerts sent right to your phone.
Fill Your Gas Tank
On the bright side, prices at the pump are lower! Be sure to fill your car gas tank and any fuel you may need for the generator.
