According to the Asbury Park Press, the Ocean County Freeholders said there are county roads in 33 municipalities and they can't let one town allow unlimited parking for a few residents when everyone's tax dollars pays for the roads.

Point Pleasant Beach had sought the overnight restrictions to cut down on rowdy seasonal visitors near the ocean front. County Engineer Frank Scarantino reviewed two of Point Beach's parking ordinances with the Board Wednesday night, calling one "Overly broad" and the other "Discriminatory".

There was a pilot program in place that allowed residents with permits to park on the roads overnight. However, party boat fishing businesses had long complained that the parking ordinance posed a hardship.
