This weekend had us thinking about summer. Thoughts of days at the beach and pool, and barbeques all over the Shore, and maybe it had you thinking about starting up the garden again.

Before you do, keep this in mind. If you were in an area that was flooded from Hurricane Sandy, and you use pots for your plants or flowers, you should consider replacing the soil in those pots if they came in contact with flood waters.

Several experts I spoke with say the salt in the flood waters, among other things, may affect the success of your flowers and plants. And one expert said he'd be on the safe side and replace soil that will be growing food, like fruits and vegetables.

Talk to your local garden expert to get their thoughts on what you should do for the best success of your flowers and plants, and happy gardening!
