Not that it's ever really easy to get a new license, but with the new "Tru-ID" system taking hold next month here in New Jersey, be prepared to show extra proof of your identity.

The Asbury Park Press reports that the new licenses will be introduced on May 7 as part of the federal Real ID Act.

The new IDs will cost $48 and will be good for 8 years. The major change is the elimination of the 6-Point ID program.

The new list of acceptable identification is available HERE. Notice that a current valid NJ Driver's License will no longer be considered acceptable ID under the new system.

I understand the idea behind the 'federal ID', but to be honest, this just seems like a pain -- ESPECIALLY for people who don't have passports.
