Defense Department spokeswoman, Lt. Col. Valerie Henderson confirmed this morning that the Russian ship was spotted thirty miles south of a Navy submarine base in Groton, CT. She said:

We are aware of the vessel's presence. It has not entered U.S. territorial waters. We respect freedom of navigation exercised by all nations beyond the territorial sea of a coastal State consistent with international law.

According to Fox News, the Russian vessel's main purpose is to "intercept data."

The report went on to say that The Pentagon expects the Russian spy ship to sail south along the East Coast and return to the Caribbean.

That means the ship has likely already sailed through waters close to New Jersey, or soon will.
