It is downright scary that our Point Pet of the Week could have ended up as...food. Thankfully this beauty was rescued!

Woodrow is now safe and sound at the Monmouth County SPCA.

It is sad but true that South Korea is the only country in the world known to solely raise dogs on intensive dog farming facilities to supply the demand for dog meat and associated products.

On these dog farms, the dogs live in small, barren cages, exposed to all of the elements, given just enough food to survive. The cages are crowded and many of the dogs end up suffering from disease, injury, and malnutrition because of the extreme neglect and, at times, direct cruelty.

Dog meat traders purchase dogs from these types of farms to sell to dog meat markets and restaurants.

The Humane Society International shut down the farm that Woodrow was on and rescued him and all of his friends. The emergency Placement Partner Program was able to get him safely to the MCSPCA where the wonderful people there are teaching Woodrow about being a dog. He has been taught that human interaction can be a good thing and he is learning to trust his new human friends.

Woodrow is about 3 years old and looks like a Lab-type mix. He is a bit shy when meeting new people but loves treats, so if you have some on hand he will be your friend in no time!

You may notice that Woodrow has a bit of a cleft palate (which makes him even more endearing!) but he gets along just fine and can eat without any problem.

Even though he didn't know what a toy was until he was rescued, Woodrow needs your help in learning how to play! He gets along well with other dogs and likes his crate (it makes him feel safe and he likes to lounge inside.) Woodrow is learning to walk on leash as well.

If you would like to meet this precious dog and consider making him your forever pet, please come visit him at the Eatontown location, 260 Wall St, 7 days a week from Noon to 5 pm with extended hours until 7 pm on Wednesdays. For more info, call 732-542-4552 or email adoptions@monmouthcountyspca.org.
